The Algarve from the Arabic word (الغرب, al garb) meaning "the west" is the southern most region of Mainland Portugal It has an area of 5,412 square kilometres,it is 265 kilometres across and divided into 3 Sections the Eastern Algarve that butts up to the Spanish border with the town of Vila real St Antonio,The Central Algarve, then the Western Algarve which end just past Odeceixe at the river which has been used as border divides for centuries across the world. it incorporates 16 municipalities (Districts). Tourism and related activities are extensive and make up the bulk of the Algarve's summer economy brining nearly 5 billion euro’s to the countries economy . Fish, seafood and fruit production, which includes oranges, carob beans, figs ,Cork and almonds .Below you will see the many styles of chimneys that are unique to the Algarve and show the status symbol of the builder as well as the owner of the house. The Algarve is the most popular tourist destination in Portugal, its population more than doubles in the peak holiday season thanks to a high influx of visitors, and receives an average of 9 million foreign tourists each year.
