Shops in Portugal Shopping retail parks normally open at 10am with large supermarkets like Continenete,Modelo’s Carefore normally open at 9am until 11pm these do not close for lunch, Portugal has many Aldi’a & Lidl and normally open 7 days a week, but many do not take foreign debit/credit cards, many smaller shops inland keep the tradition of lunch hours 1pm -3pm closing at 6pm
most retail parks offer mobility scooters free for use within the retail park, with lift in all 2 storey parks, also Disabled toilets, Aldi and Lidl have also special disabled toilets
Complaints / restaurant /shopsAll hotels, restaurants and similar establishments, must under Portuguese law have a complaints book camping sites, rural tourism facilities and travel agencies in fact if it offers a public service normal they will have a red sign in the window or on display with the complaints book sign, this must be given to any customer requesting it and showing identification. If they fail to give it to you upon reporting the matter to the police they will act on your behalf All complaints are sent to the National Tourism Authority, which then takes the appropriate action. Complaints can also be made at any Tourist Information Office, which will refer them as necessary body ,a blue copy is given to you it must be dated as it is required to be sent off within 5 working days
Refunds
Refunds are normally given on keeping the receipt and the original box/package that the item came in, and returned within 14 Days Unless goods are faulty, a consumer does not have a legal right to an exchange. It is at the trader’s discretion but nowadays it is common in the larger shops to give refunds
under legislation, all consumers, who buy goods in Portugal have the right to a minimum guarantee of 2 years on products.
Sales
Unlike the Uk Portugal has set sales times and state the sale beginning and the end normally in the shop window by way of a small sign ,these sale are for fixed periods this is to stop false sales being generated the official sale periods are as follows Winter sales: 07/01 to 28/02. Summer sales: 07/08 to 30/09
Car parks
It is very important then when you get into your car you put your seatbelt on before attempting to drive off, Car Parks are treated the same as Highways and you can be fined for pulling away with no seatbelt on for all passengers
